This workshop will be completely devoted to digital medical illustration and photo-retouching techniques using an iPad, and an iPencil.   

Requirements are as follows:

iPad (any size)

iPencil

Ahead of time, please download the Procreate app for iPad (about $10)

You will receive a handout which include exercises that we will perform during the workshop as well as reference photos of surgical instruments and cleft lips and palates that participants can use in their own practice.

Topics

  • Understanding the basic Procreate toolbar
  • Choosing brushes, adjusting size and opacity, choosing colors
  • Simple line drawings and shading
  • Learning to use layers
  • Cleaning up your clinical photos to remove blood splatter, refine surgical markings, remove background clutter, etc.
  • Creating your own hyper-realistic illustrations
  • Adding surgical instruments and sutures
  • Adding text labels and leader lines to your photos and illustrations
  • Touching up your family photos – removing red eye, fixing people with closed eyes, adding missing people, deleting undesirable people, etc.
