Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management

Lead Trainers:
Juan Manuel Rodríguez, MD,
Cardiovascular Pediatric Anethesiology, The American British Cowdray Medical Center
Myriam Suarez, MD,
Specialist in Pediatric Anesthesiology, Colombia

The proposed workshop will feature four simulation scenarios focused on cleft lip and palate surgery. This will enable participants to practice and learn how to manage critical perioperative events, including laryngospasm, bronchospasm, accidental extubation, anaphylaxis, cardiac arrest, local anesthetic systemic toxicity, malignant hyperthermia, massive hemorrhage and postoperative apnea. Participants will have the opportunity to confront these situations and will benefit from structured guidance and analysis provided by a facilitator during each scenario.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Provide participants with the opportunity to face four simulation scenarios that represent critical events in pediatric anesthesia, allowing for the practical application of knowledge.
  2. Train participants in the identification and effective management of emergency situations, enhancing their ability to make quick and appropriate decisions under pressure.
  3. Familiarize participants with the principles of Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management (ACRM), emphasizing its application in managing crises in pediatric anesthesia.
  4. Promote the development of clear and effective communication skills among team members during critical situations, ensuring a coordinated and efficient response.
  5. Reinforce the importance of teamwork, highlighting the role of each member in crisis management, and encourage interprofessional collaboration in the anesthetic environment.
  6. Facilitate a structured and directed analysis of actions during the simulation, promoting critical reflection and the identification of areas for improvement.
  7.  Equip attendees with tools and techniques to manage stress and pressure during crisis situations, ensuring a patient-centered approach to safety

"I am excited to share my sincere gratitude to all the organizers and presenters for the just ended South African Comprehensive Cleft Care Workshop. The outcome was amazing . Thank you for your efforts to shape the upcoming future leaders in comprehensive cleft care. The knowledge we have acquired will go a long way in providing best practices in our care for children born with cleft lip and palate striving to reduce complications . The Nasal Elevator, Lip Taping and Speech Therapy Techniques we learned during the workshop will definitely help us make a difference while putting a smile on the face of that child and the mother raping it up with the psychosocial tips of family centered care and patient centered care approach."
